hello people… I just want to know how long does it take for the “section 8″ to be approve because i heard it takes more than 5 years. PLease help me because I really need to move with my family to some other place due to my alcoholic step father , but since our income is low is not possible by now…. please tell me all about section 8 but mostly how long does it take to be approve???

www.wfaa.com DALLAS — At least eight people were hurt Thursday morning while scrambling to line up for a limited number of Dallas County rental vouchers — after waiting for hours in their cars. People lined up Thursday morning to apply for Dallas County Section 8 housing vouchers. Dallas County sheriff’s spokesman Kim Leach estimated the crowd at about 5000. The office at the Jesse Owens Memorial Complex wasn’t supposed to open until 8 am, but some applicants started lining up at 10 o’clock Wednesday night. Police kept people off school district property until the gates opened at 6 am That resulted in a long string of cars lined up on the streets. Doors were opened early. Hundreds of people rushed the line, causing moments of unruliness. “I started running and I slipped and fell,” said applicant Jordan Spivey, who suffered cuts and scrapes as she was caught up in the crowd. But she said she feels lucky that she wasn’t trampled. “It was a madhouse,” said applicant Ada McKinsey, who was injured as the crowd closed in around the door. “People pushing, fighting.” But authorities eventually gained control. Seven people were treated by paramedics. None were taken to the hospital. The question is: Why didn’t organizers plan for more people and have more security in place to keep the crowds under control? Organizers of the event said they didn’t plan for people to start arriving until Thursday morning. But people who started showing up as early as Wednesday afternoon were told to …

How to Apply for Section 8 in Illinois

Illinois Section 8 program allows low income families, the elderly and the disabled to live in affordable housing. People in these programs receive vouchers they can use to secure housing within their own communities, as long as these places meet the required guidelines of safety and affordability. While the application process is simple, the waiting list is usually long.

Step1

Find a housing authority office in your area by calling a local city building, chamber of commerce, or even a landlord. Call the office to make an appointment to complete an application. Each office in the Illinois area may have different rules for the application process.

Step2

Bring the following documents to your appointment: verification of current income (such as recent pay stubs, 1099s and income tax statements), social security cards. birth certificates, marriage licenses or divorce papers, current address verification (such as recent utility bills and leases), three personal references and a statement from your doctor if any member in the household is pregnant.

Step 3

Wait for your income to be verified and a criminal check is performed on your household. If you qualify for the program, you will be put on a waiting list to receive a voucher. Once your name has reached the top of the list, your information will be reviewed again to determine eligibility. If you pass, you will be able to use the housing voucher.
