The Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Reagan as part of the Tax Reform Act of 1986. Designed to encourage the production of affordable housing for low income people, through new construction or rehabilitation, the tax credit provides equity for owners and developers of such housing. Coeur Dalene Electrical Contractor Announces

Coeur d?Alene, ID (PRWEB) April 15, 2012

Eighty percent of elderly live in their own homes. Not surprisingly, according to AARP, 90 percent of seniors would like to stay there. However, many adult children worry with good reason about their parents living alone. Many seniors suffer from mobility issues. In fact, one-third of people age 65 and older will suffer a fall.

What can families do to keep their elderly loved ones safe? Of course, obstacles and risks such as stairs, rugs, and cooking hazards must be addressed. Homes can be retrofitted with universal design elements like grab bars, alternative counter heights, wider doorways, and ramps. Beyond that, personal emergency response systems (PERS) can help protect seniors and reassure caregivers.

?Today we have technology capabilities to help seniors successfully age and remain in their own home,? says Bryon Hatley, owner of Evergreen Electric & HVAC. ?Medical alerts are a good solution to help protect older family members and give their caregivers peace of mind.?

Evergreen Electric & HVAC is an authorized dealer for a wireless two-way intercom system, Freedom Alert, which allows elderly family members to wear a mini pendant and contact family, friends, or neighbors at anytime, and from anywhere in or around the home. If programmed contacts are not reached, the system can be defaulted to contact a 911 emergency operator. Best of all, FreedomAlert is a one-time purchase with no monthly charge or contracts like other similar products.

?The two-way voice pendants can provide peace of mind to those who wish to maintain an independent lifestyle but want the assurance that help can be summoned if needed,? Bryon explains. ?With the help of FreedomAlert, whether a senior is in their home, outside in the yard, or in the driveway, they are never alone.?

How to Care for Aging Parents

The best and bestselling book of its kind. Originally published in 1995, How to Care for Aging Parents, with 220,000 copies in print, won a Books for a Better Life Award and was praised as “an indispensable book” (AARP) and “a compassionate guide of encyclopedic proportion” (The Washington Post). It also catapulted its author, Virginia Morris, to national prominence as a recognized eldercare authority on Oprah, Good Morning America, CNN, CBS, and other media.Nine years later, and the need for the book is mushrooming: the number of adult children caring for a parent has increased from 4 million to 19.5 million, with roughly 80% of the nation’s elderly cared for at home. Virginia Morris responds with a completely revised, up-to-date new edition. Expanded from 450 to over 650 pages, it covers all the emotional, legal, financial, medical, and logistical issues in caring for the elderly. There are new sections on expanded housing options, alternative therapies, balancing career and caregiving, and dealing with difficult parents. It covers the biggest change in caregiving–the newfound independence of seniors and benefits of healthy aging–and the reverse: three chapters are dedicated to caring for parents with Alzheimers. At the end of the book is an invaluable 100-page “Yellow Pages” guide to all the resources and services of the enormous eldercare industry.
