The first US nation-wide essay contest entitled ?Korean War Veteran?s Enduring Legacy? will be hosted by Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI USA), a Korean government agency in New York, to pay tributes to Korean War veterans. The contest, a part of the 2012 Body & Seoul – Korean War Veterans & Families Health Appreciation Event, is held in partnership with the Korean War Veterans Association (KWVA).

?From the ashes of war, the Korean people today can enjoy our vibrant democracy and coveted economic prosperity. We owe our deep gratitude to the men and women who served to defend the freedom on the Korean peninsula against the reckless aggression from the communist North,? said Amb. Young-mok Kim of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in New York. ?Korean War Veterans? Enduring Legacy? is a noble and much needed endeavor to preserve the memories of the Korean War veterans and their valor and sacrifices.?

Open to all US Korean War veterans and their families, the commemorative essay contest marks the 59th anniversary of the end of the Korean War, of which date July 27 was proclaimed by President Barak Obama in 2010 as the National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day.

One person per veteran?s family (veteran, or a family member) is eligible to submit. Veterans may share his/her own recount of the Korean War, or family members may submit the story of their Korean War Veteran?s enduring legacy (living or deceased).

?As President of the Korean War Veterans Association, Inc., I believe that our members will welcome the opportunity to take part in this US nation-wide essay contest called the ?Korean War Veterans Enduring Legacy.? I hope that many of our members or their families throughout the United States will take the time to submit their essay.? Said KWVA president William F. Mac Swain. ?As Veterans of the Korean War, we need to take the time to relate to our nation what was accomplished when we stopped communism from spreading around the world. Two contest winners will receive grand prize of an exclusive, all-expenses-paid VIP trip to Korea for themselves and one additional travel companion each. ?Since the armistice, the Republic of Korea has progressed by leaps and bounds, especially in the 21st Century?s innovative healthcare and well-being management as a global leader,? said KHIDI USA director-general Do-hyun Cho. ?Commemorating the Korean War veterans? immeasurable sacrifice and courage, we are proud to share Korea?s remarkable postwar achievements with them through this meaningful contest.?

To participate in the contest, submit an essay at least 1,000 words in length, in English, double spaced, and formatted for 8-1/2″ by 11″ paper as attachment. The essay topic is ?The Korean War Veteran?s Enduring Legacy,? which should be specified in the email subject line as well. The body of email must contain contestant?s name; relationship to the veteran; veteran?s name, rank and year of service; home address; email; telephone number; and a recent photo of the contestant. All entries with appropriate information and attachments must be submitted to event(at)khidiusa(dot)org via email no later than June 30, 2012. Select entries will be published online and as a print publication to mark the occasion. The winners will be announced in July at an official ceremony in Washington D.C.

The District of Columbia Housing Authority Police Department is a relatively new department, having been created by the DC Housing Authority in 1995, while under the court ordered receivership of David Gilmore. In 2000, David Gilmore turned over the governing reigns of the DCHA to a 9 member Board of Commissioners, led by Chairman Russell Simmons. Michael Kelly was chosen as the Executive Director of the DCHA.

Because we are a new department, with a small number of officers, we owe a great debt of gratitude to the DC Metropolitan Police Department for the academy training and the regular backup that is given by their officers.
Now, there are lots of people who believe that almost everyone living in the public housing properties of DC are a bad element of society. However, only a small percentage of the tenants, or their guests, actually represent the criminal element on DCHA properties. And unfortunately, these are the people that you most often read about.

There are approximately 53 public housing properties in the District of Columbia. And while some of the properties are currently in need of renovation, DCHA Executive Director, Michael Kelly, is working diligently to give the residents of DCHA properties a home of which they can be proud. Under the leadership of the Executive Director, the DCHA is making great strides in improving the living conditions for the residents of public housing in Washington, DC.

As DCHA officers, it is our job, a job that most of us take very seriously, to preserve the peace, while maintaining the dignity, and rights of the tenants of our properties.

Job Readiness/ Job Search Classes for welfare recipients- They cost -20 in taxpayer dollars for gas cards and bus passes per recipient.

Section 8 Vouchers- They benefit too few Americans.

Non-labor jails- The 13th Amendment says they should work to pay their debt to society.

5. City-wide job fairs where residents can get rid of old junk for easy cash.

6. COMING SOON- Ford Barber School (kit and uniform included with Pell Grant).

7. If you close your food stamp case and volunteer to do your
community service with the City of Memphis we will match your food
stamp amount with cash bonuses on the first of every month.

8. These job programs will save the City of Memphis over 0 Million.

9. Area Community Centers will have mock elections for area mayors who
band the citizens together to raise the children of the area. This is
the Ford Heirs program.

10. The mayor's office is committed to providing the citizens with
self sufficiency referrals that will link them to government agencies,
churches, and non-profit organizations in the city to help them. (WIC,
commodities, farmer's market, soup kitchens, food pantries, #211,
etc.)

11. We will continue to support Backpack for Life to feed
underprivileged children every weekend and plan community (city-wide)
pot lucks for all ages.

12. We will provide FREE TRANSPORTATION for students linking area
community centers with area libraries (plus area parks in the
summertime).

The 2008 financial crisis “proved that financial markets are not self-regulating,” says political scientist Francis Fukuyama in a recent interview with the website TheBrowser: “[Peter Wallison] lays it all at the door of Fannie and Freddie and government intervention. It seems to me transparently designed to exonerate free markets…I like free markets…[but] that particular conclusion I just find astonishing.” Fukuyama isn’t alone in depicting Wallison as an uncomprimising ideologue who thinks government deserves all the blame. New York Times columnist Joe Nocera called Wallison’s work “loony” and accused him of helping to concoct “what has since become a Republican meme.” Even pro-free market economist Russ Roberts took Wallison to task for downplaying the role of investment banks in causing the crisis. So who is Peter Wallison? He’s a scholar at The American Enterprise Institute and was a leading member of the 10-person Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, a government-created body charged with looking into the causes of the 2008 meltdown. After a year of hearings and deliberation, the commission produced its official report which laid most of the blame on deregulation and private sector avarice. Wallison publicly broke with the commission over the report. “Instead of pursuing a thorough study,” says Wallison, “the commission’s majority used its extensive statutory investigative authority to seek only the facts that supported its initial assumptions – that the crisis
